The Medieval Villages

Driving through the "Piceno's", territory, the sweet hills can be admired while you are going toward the Adriatic coast, down to sandy terraces. You can see cultivated fields, vineyards, olive groves and medieval villages located along the hills crest profile…

"Castel Trosino", located at only 6 Km from Ascoli Piceno, is an ancient Lombardic fortress, standing on a travertine spur. In XIX century, this city returned a vast necropolis with precious tokens of ancient Lombardic jewels, which are today preserved at the “Museo dell’Alto Medioevo” of Rome and at “Museo Archeologico” of Ascoli Piceno.

"Offida", the real kingdom of “Merletto a Tombolo” (Bobbin Lace), a tradition that dates back to 1400 and that still remains intact, appearing in national and international fairs. During summer you can observe the women from Offida, sat in front of their house door, while they are cleverly handling the bobbins (better known as "cann'itt "), the white cotton threads and the pins to picture every kind of figure as, for example, the one represented under. In particular, in the historical centre, you can visit the church of “Santa Maria della Rocca” and the “Museo del merletto” (Museum of BobbinLace).

Finally, "Ripatransone", perched on the highest hill in the area, is defined as " the viewpoint of the Piceno "for the natural scenery that offers stunning views along the walking" tour of the walls. A curiosity that Ripatransone is famous in Italy and abroad: an alley off just 43 cm considered the closest in Italy and for this reason it is included in the Guinness Book of Records.
